INTERFACE INNOVATION

Quick Access Controls for on body operations

Large Edge to edge display for applications

Body Worn Video Capabilitis

The design journey for the LEX L11 was about simplifying user interaction while maximizing utility—a mission I embraced as an industrial designer. Traditional smartphones often complicate essential features like Push-to-Talk (PTT) with unnecessary steps. My focus was to bring PTT just a button away, ensuring streamlined communication in critical situations. Going beyond, I advocated for body-worn applications, pushing boundaries by integrating functionalities like video streaming. This wasn't just a design decision; it was a call to empower users with quick access to vital capabilities. In the LEX L11, my role wasn't just about aesthetics; it was about simplifying the essential, making critical functionalities effortlessly accessible for users in the field.

ARCHITECTURE INNOVATION

Design of the LEX L11, direct access to every button emerged as a foundational principle. As an industrial designer, my goal was to eliminate unnecessary steps in accessing critical functionalities. Each button, from Push-to-Talk (PTT) to programmable controls, was strategically placed for instant accessibility. This approach not only enhanced the user experience but also ensured that users could navigate the device seamlessly in high-pressure situations, where every second counts.

Ergonomics

Crafting a device with robust ergonomics while maintaining a slim 10mm profile presented a unique challenge. As an industrial designer, I focused on optimizing the ergonomics to accommodate a comfortable grip, ensuring the device felt natural in the user's hand. The PTT button, a focal point for quick communication, was designed with meticulous attention. Its size was carefully determined to strike a balance—large enough for easy activation yet protected against inadvertent actuation, addressing a critical concern in intense field scenarios.

Innovative Talkgroup Switch Rocker

A standout feature in the LEX L11 design was the innovative talkgroup switch rocker. This element allowed users to seamlessly change volume or talkgroup settings even when the device was holstered. This thoughtful addition, born from collaborative design sessions, aimed to enhance user convenience, offering swift control without the need to remove the device from its holster. It exemplified the commitment to innovation in every aspect of the user interface.

Crafting Both Device and Its Ecosystem

The LEX L11 design extended beyond the device itself, encompassing a holistic ecosystem. The holster, a patented design , featured an audio tunneling system. This innovation enhanced audio performance when the device was holstered, directing sound toward the user's ears. The charger, an integral part of the ecosystem, seamlessly complemented the device's design, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing ensemble.

Rugged in and out

Ruggedness was ingrained in the LEX L11 from its core design. Colaboration with ME team, we prioritized both inward and outward durability. The device boasted an impressive level of waterproofing and dustproofing, meeting stringent industry standards. With an IP68 rating, the LEX L11 could withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes. This rugged design wasn't just about resilience; it was a testament to the device's capability to endure the harshest conditions, providing reliability in the most challenging environments.
